Climate

Benahavís, offers a temperate and warm climate, with an ideal annual average temperature of 17.0 °C/62°F.

The warmest month is August with an average of 24°C/76°F, while January has the lowest average temperature at a very comfortable 10°C/51°F.

The mild winters offer the opportunity to enjoy summer sports all year round. Golf is extremely popular in Winter with an abundance of nearby courses.

Demographics

Benahavís has a population of 9,000 residents, which includes residents of at least 84 different nationalities. 70% of the people registered here are ex-pats, mainly British and German.

Economy

Benahavís enjoys a privileged location and the local economy is based on leisure tourism, golf tourism, and luxury real estate development. Its proximity to Marbella makes it a popular golfing and holiday destination.

The town is home to a thriving community of artisans, mainly chefs, potters, and painters, who run their flourishing craft shops and art galleries.

Schools and Colleges

Atalaya Bilingual School, a 5 minutes drive from Capanes del Golf, is a recently built private school in Benahavis.

Older students can access the San Pedro school via the catered bus service.

The private Marbella University is one of the nearest private higher education centres. Marbella also has many private schools, such as Aloha College Foundation, Swans International School, EIC- English International College, Laude San Pedro International College, and Calpe College International School.

The municipal district of Benahavis boasts seven fabulous golf courses and clubs, namely El Higueral Club de Golf, La Zagaleta Club de Campo, Gran Flamingo Golf Course, La Zagaleta - Los Barrancos, Los Flamingos Golf, Los Arqueros, and Monte Mayor Golf Club

Medical Facilities

For access to private hospitals and medical centres, driving down to Marbella is the best option to avail the facilities provided by Hospital Quirón salud Marbella, Hospital Ochoa, Hospital Ceram Marbella, HC Marbella International Hospital, and Elysium Clinic.

Shopping

At the start of the municipality, there is a large Mercadona supermarket. Nearby Marbella, and Puertos Banus, which can be quickly reached by car, have large luxury boutiques, high street stores, department stores, and shopping centres such as the Centro Comercial Centro Plaza, Parque Comercial La Cañada, Centro Comercial Cristamar, and Banus Marina Mall.

The luxury-shopping hub La Canada can be accessed within 20 minutes by car. A Sunday market takes place in Benahavis every week on the grounds of a shrine on the way to the village.

Restaurants

Benahavis is often considered the gastronomic capital of the Costa del Sol, with over 40 restaurants that range from luxurious haute cuisine establishments to authentic pizzerias.  Marbella has a fine selection of Michelin Star Restaurants such as Kava, Skina, Casa Eladio, TA-KUMI, Nintai, and Messina.
