Benahavís has a population of 9,000 residents, which includes residents of at least 84 different nationalities. 70% of the people registered here are ex-pats, mainly British and German.

Shopping
At the start of the municipality, there is a large Mercadona supermarket. Nearby Marbella, and Puertos Banus, which can be quickly reached by car, have large luxury boutiques, high street stores, department stores, and shopping centres such as the Centro Comercial Centro Plaza, Parque Comercial La Cañada, Centro Comercial Cristamar, and Banus Marina Mall.
The luxury-shopping hub La Canada can be accessed within 20 minutes by car. A Sunday market takes place in Benahavis every week on the grounds of a shrine on the way to the village.

Benahavis is often considered the gastronomic capital of the Costa del Sol, with over 40 restaurants that range from luxurious haute cuisine establishments to authentic pizzerias.
